Open Letter To Officiants
A Thoughtful Guide for Guest Officiants
Being asked to officiate the wedding of someone you love is a tremendous honour. It means you’ve been entrusted with one of the most meaningful moments in their lives.
Over the years, we’ve had the privilege of documenting hundreds of ceremonies. One thing has become abundantly clear: it takes a village to create an exceptional wedding. Every person involved shares the same responsibility, to serve the couple and elevate their experience.
A few thoughtful details can make a lasting impact.
Use the handheld microphone.
Especially outdoors, a handheld microphone ensures your words are heard clearly by every guest and beautifully preserved in the wedding film.
Choose a quiet way to hold your notes.
Loose sheets of paper can rustle in the microphone. A notebook, folio, or tablet offers a quieter, more polished option.
Guide your guests.
Simple cues like, “Please rise,” and, “Please be seated,” help the ceremony flow with ease.
Step aside for the first kiss.
After pronouncing the couple married, take one small step to either side before inviting their first kiss. It’s a simple gesture that creates an unobstructed view for their guests, photographer, and filmmaker.
The smallest details can have the greatest impact, not only in the moment, but in how the day is remembered for years to come.
Thank you for helping create a ceremony the couple will treasure for a lifetime.
